hair loss & scalp problems
Trichology is the specialty dealing with problems of the hair and scalp; hair loss, baldness, alopecia, scaling, itching, hair breakage, hair damage, and dryness or oiliness of the hair or scalp.
Qualified trichologists in Australia have trained either with the International Association of Trichologists or with one of the TAFE colleges and have studied the trichology course that was developed at the University of Southern California.
Qualified trichologists are registered members of the International Association of Trichologists. Members are controlled by a strict Code of Ethics and are required to take an annual test to ensure they are staying up-to-date with technical information.
The trichology course covers the medical and nutritional areas that relate to hair and scalp problems. Particularly important are the immune system, the endocrine system and the various hormones, the nervous system, circulatory system, the digestive system and dietary factors. Nutritional imbalances commonly cause hair loss.
